Are You Making Simple Mistakes that Keep You Feeling Crummy?
Hint: You probably are, and these tips will help.
Are feel-good foods a reward?
Growing up my parents were bad about using food as a reward. A hard day’s work might earn an ice cream cone. If the report card was favorable a restaurant celebration was in order. Feel good food was a reward system for just about anything. That was then and this is now.
Now I know to listen to my body. Listening to your body is an excellent way to uncover food intolerance you might not know you have. Do simple carbs leave you feeling crummy? Does milk set your tummy a flutter? Listen to your body and the cues it gives you about food. An elimination diet will help identify foods that leave you feeling less than your best.
Stay Hydrated
Health authorities suggest drinking eight 8 oz. glasses of water each day. Dehydration is commonly mistaken for hunger. If you are bored it is easy to snack. Try drinking a glass of water first and giving it time before stopping at the nearest vending machine.
Too much “healthy” food can be bad
Nuts, hummus, olive oil, and guacamole are common foods that people eat to abandon because they are “healthy”. Here are others. Too much of a good thing isn’t a good thing. All good things in moderate proportions; okay?
Did you know 1 in 3 adults don’t get enough sleep?
The American Academy suggests 7 hours of sleep for adults on a regular basis for wellness. Good sleep is easier to achieve with simple habits, like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, and turning electronics off an hour before bed, or using blue blocker glasses.

Here’s to becoming more aware!
Nancy! Thanks for stopping by, reading and commenting. Glad you are here!
A great insight for all of us … awareness. Glad you are here!
I really REALLY love your checklist. I am one of those people who just do not get enough sleep. My to-do list far outweighs the amount of hours in my day and because of that I am up early and in bed late. I really need to make sleep a priority, I definitely do better when I am not exhausted!
Thanks for the great tips! I signed up for your cookbook too. I can’t wait to get it!
Thanks Tracy! You truly are amazing, and I am glad you are a reader. I’m with you … I struggle to meal plan when I’m sleepy, that’s why I strive to make planning meals as simple as possible. Hopefully these tips help. So glad you’re looking forward to the cookbooks. I love to help people succeed in the kitchen. Please let me know what you want more of, and I’ll do my best to deliver.
Aw, thanks, Nicole! I would love to have some go to ideas for quick snacking that will give me an energy boost. At my age, I tire much quicker than I used to and I am not a fan of energy drinks. Power snacking is the way to go for me and having some quick easy ideas at the ready will really help!
Thanks for being my healthy food guru!
Tracy, have I got you covered! Whether in upcoming posts, or the cookbook series, there will be snack suggestions to beat the afternoon blues. Glad to help!
Eating too much of a good thing is where I mess up! Those nut mixes that say they are full of protein and good for you but a serving is like one tbs. it’s so hard to only eat that much but I shall keep trying
Oh Patty, I am right there with you! I love nuts … especially almonds, and the serving size is so small. Grabbing handful after handful can quickly exceed daily tolerance. I’ll have some snack suggestions coming your way in the near future … and in the cookbooks.
Hi Nicole,
I LOVE this. I’m so bad on all three fronts. I need a reminder to drink water, eat and sleep. Basically, I’m a toddler.
What’s helped me stay better hydrated lately was getting a swell waterbottle. This way my water’s always cold even if it’s from hours before. One less excuse for staying hydrated.
Off to refill it now!
Thanks for the SUPER helpful tips,
